HISTORY
You can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends
You can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends, and it just so happened that Leamon Wells Jr. affectionately called “Junior” by his family and friends was both my grandfather and my best friend. I did not know how important or impactful our intergenerational connection would be on my or his life, but I knew our lives were better because of each other.
Growing up, I would sit on his lap and listen to his stories, ride across what felt like the country in his blue Buick, and learn lessons from him that I will never forget. Before long, it was me doing the driving, sharing stories about my day and eventually visiting him at the senior care facility where he spent his last days.
Each time I went to see "Junior" he would tell me how much my visit meant to him, and be sure to ask me when I was coming again. He would express concern about his friends, who never got visitors, the ones who had no family around, the ones who needed something or someone to look forward to so each day at the facility wouldn't be the same.
My mission is to ensure that senior citizens wake up knowing that there is always more to look forward to.
In honor of my grandfather “Junior.” I started Junior to Senior.
